Application
The active form of cobalamin is deoxyadenosylcobalamin. It functions in single-carbon transfers (e.g., conversion of homocysteine to methionine). Cobalamin has the lowest RDA of any vitamin because it is highly conserved in the enterohepatic circulation (secretion in the bile and reabsorption from the gut into the hepatic portal vein). It forms a complex with intrinsic factor, a gastric mucosal glycoprotein that is required for absorption from the gut. Cobalamin is transported on transcobalamin in plasma and delivered to cells or stored in the liver, which usually contains a 6- to 9-year supply. Cobalamin deficiency is caused by autoimmune destruction of the parietal cells in the stomach, producing pernicious anemia. Other causes of deficiency are a pure vegetarian diet, chronic pancreatitis, tapeworm, and terminal ileal disease. Symptoms are megaloblastic anemia and neurologic degenerationFunction
1.Vitamin B12 can be resistance to fatty liver, promote storage of vitamin A in liver.
2.Vitamin B12 can promote cell mature and body metabolism.
3.Vitamin B12 participates in the manufacturing of bone marrow RBC, so it can be the treatment of pernicious anemia.
4.Vitamin B12 increases folic acid utilization rate, promote carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism.COA
